Bit late to the party, but a Java record/replay solution that doesn't require a VM is ReplayDIRECTOR.

Great work! Thanks for sharing the setup steps here. I'd love to get to a point where this was super easy to do, and magically available on tinderbox for debugging unit test failures. Perhaps someday!
